The dilapidated state of the timber infrastructure made it essential to modernise these two tracks, representing 800 linear metres of concrete track regeneration. In addition, ETF carried out work to simplify the junctions on tracks G and H. This work was completed on schedule thanks to the use of a work train. This modernisation of the station\u2019s tracks ensures safety, durability and operational performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Accessible platforms for all in Tours<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the track modernisation, the project brings six of the station\u2019s platforms \u2013 including two measuring over 420 metres \u2013 into line with European accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To modernise the infrastructure, teams from ETF\u2019s Civil Engineering division are carrying out intensive works (OCP) on each platform over several weekends. To carry out this operation successfully, our teams began by demolishing the existing platforms to a depth of up to 20 centimetres, using a trolley developed in-house to ensure precise alignment of the platforms. The entire length of the new platforms has been re-levelled in accordance with the new track layout with millimetre precision to guarantee access to trains for all passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new platform consists of a lower concrete slab 10 centimetres thick, followed by a system of white tactile paving slabs with raised dots at the platform edge. This system is designed for people with visual impairments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Particular attention has been paid to the environment and local residents<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located right in the heart of the city, the construction site faces a significant noise challenge. The client, SNCF, has installed noise-measuring sensors in collaboration with a company specialising in acoustics. Analysis of the sensor data demonstrates the efforts made by the teams on a daily basis. The use of certain electric machines \u2013 which are normally powered by internal combustion engines \u2013 helps to reduce the noise impact of the construction site on local residents living around the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is also part of a rigorous environmental approach, having been awarded the VINCI Gold label. The teams monitor water consumption and ensure rigorous waste sorting via an on-site waste collection centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A significant impact on local labour market integration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ETF and its partners have decided to engage local organisations such as ID Int\u00e9rim Tours and R\u00e9gie+ to achieve a target of 3,500 hours of labour market integration on the project. This initiative helps to strengthen the project\u2019s local roots whilst promoting local employment and labour market inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Synergy within VINCI Construction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project has highlighted all the trades and areas of expertise within VINCI Construction\u2019s rail division, with the involvement of track teams, civil engineering and GIS teams for the installation of new platforms, ETF Catenary for the installation of overhead lines, and ETF Services for site security. Furthermore, this project demonstrates greater synergy within the VINCI Construction division, with the involvement of EBGC for civil engineering and GTM for engineering structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project exemplifies ETF\u2019s strategic focus on providing sustainable mobility for all, whilst making a positive contribution to local community life and minimising the impact of its construction sites on local residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Located right in the city centre, Tours railway station is undergoing a number of major refurbishments.
