Line 15 West-South: ETF at the heart of a key project for the Grand Paris Express
Having been involved in the project since the tender phase in 2020, ETF is participating in the design and construction of the Grand Paris Express Line 15 West-South. Led by the IntenCités15 consortium, which comprises 19 companies, this major project will help to bring about a lasting transformation of transport in the Île-de-France region by linking Pont de Sèvres to La Défense.
The ETF teams are involved in work on the railway track as well as on various linear infrastructure elements. Whilst the project is in the civil engineering phase, the railway component is currently in the preparatory phase, involving consultations with suppliers, the initial procurement of materials and the organisation of future site operations. ETF works are scheduled to commence in August 2028, with the line expected to enter service by 2031. Ultimately, this new line will be able to carry nearly 1.5 million passengers a day, thereby contributing to the development of a more efficient and sustainable transport system for residents of the Île-de-France region.
Reducing the construction site’s carbon footprint
From the design stages onwards, the project partners have been working to reduce the environmental impact of the works. In particular, optimisation work has been carried out on the civil engineering structures to limit the quantities of concrete used and to prioritise materials with lower carbon emissions.
On the rail side, ETF contributed to this approach by helping to select an electricity supply chain for the rails, thereby reducing the carbon footprint associated with the production of materials.
BIM for coordination
The success of a project of this scale depends on close coordination between all stakeholders. To facilitate communication and anticipate interfaces between the various disciplines, the teams rely on BIM (Building Information Modelling).
More than just a visualisation tool, this shared digital model enables teams to work within a common environment where everyone can incorporate their specific requirements, verify their layouts and contribute to better overall project coordination.
A collective approach driving tomorrow’s mobility
Beyond the technical challenges, the project is underpinned by a strong collaborative approach between the various organisations involved. From the outset, the teams established common operating rules to foster cooperation and maintain a collective dynamic throughout the project.
For ETF, the 15 Ouest Sud project fully demonstrates its ability to apply its railway expertise to a key infrastructure project and to contribute, alongside the other members of the consortium, to the development of the mobility solutions of the future.
